Google conference at the school
This morning we have three engineers from Google Inc. To inform us of what Google is already giving us a few strokes of his way to work.
I would have expected more technical data but have been somewhat sparing in this regard. A bit of GFS, a bit of MapReduce and a little Sawzall. What is everything? Well, GFS is its own file system, MapReduce is a massive system of processing information and Sawzall is a scripting language (scripts) that have developed themselves for the rapid development of small and easy profits.
They are divided into teams of a few people, as a rule, and can spend 20% of their time on research themselves who believe they can get to serve something ... techniques are quite peculiar, but apparently effective.
The first speaker was one Hugo, which has been the fact that we have spoken of the GFS and MapReduce. On the latter system has been added that can be used from c , Java or python. Apart from the web interface that implements processes for monitoring, stations, etc ... This person works at Google Labs in New York.
The second is called rapporteur Pedro Moreno and also works in the same laboratories, although, unlike Hugo, is in the department of speech recognition, is an engineer in telecommunications. We have talked about Sawzall and how the review of the searches, dictionaries and algorithms that are used. It also has added information on new products that are drawing in the field of geographic information.
