History of Ctrl + Alt + Del
The engineer David Bradley
He joined IBM in 1975, and was part from 1980 onwards of the team that developed
the first personal computer. Among other things, is responsible for the code of
ROM BIOS carrying the first PCs. After 28 years and a half at IBM
Bradley abandoned in January 2004. At present, continues to provide
class at the State University of North Carolina. To this engineer
electricity and computer, the more students go to science careers
and technology, the greater the economic strength of the country (in his case, the
United States).
Control-Alt-Delete
Why was this feature? Bradley explained that in the early 80s at IBM tests were being intensively with new hardware and software. This causes the computer is hang with ease. To re-boot a computer was necessary to shut it down, wait a few seconds to rest so as not to cause damage to the hardware, re-start it and wait for the routines of self that he played the PC. It took more than a minute to regain the operational team. Bradley was the idea of creating a mechanism that would allow the resumption "hot", without having to follow the entire process. The time savings were substantial, and that's why this feature, which was originally only intended to be known by the developers of IBM, gradually spread among the public. Why these three keys? It was found a combination that could not be typing by accident. Were chosen to use two buttons uncommon (Control and Alt) and the third was sought just across the keyboard. At first he thought Bradley on the key "+", but believed it would make more sense DELETE. Once you define the solution, Bradley argues that he did not reschedule it took more than five minutes.
