Archived on: Free development, Development, GNU / Linux, Recipes and tricks - Packo at 5:52 pm on Tuesday, October 9, 2007

I made a python script that, given a network tells you in what hosts are running an ssh server.

The operation is as follows:

  Usage: ssh_discover <subnet> [<PORT>]
          It subnets support: *.*.*. 0 and *.*. 0.0
          Example: ssh_discover 192.168.2.0
                          ssh_discover 172.169.0.0

30 things I learned using Linux

Archived on: GNU / Linux, Informatica - Packo at 5:09 pm on Monday, August 27, 2007

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, editor of ZD Net, spent 5 months to try different Linux distributions and once all of them tested out 30 interesting conclusions about our beloved OS. Some of his more interesting revelations:

  1. Installing Linux is much easier to install Windows.
  2. OpenOffice can do 90% of the things I do with Office.
  3. Switching to Linux does not mean you stop having problems with the PC.
  4. The weakest point of Linux regard to hardware support is WiFi.
  5. A distribution with Beryl installed makes Aero look like a shit.
  6. Because I do not have to pay money to be able to use a great operating system.
  7. There are legal alternatives to illegal codecs but you have to know where to look.
  8. Stay away from proprietary formats such as WMA and WMV and you avoid problems with codecs.
  9. You need less technical requirements to run any Linux distribution to run Vista.
  10. Whatever terms you like the GUI there are still too many things to be done via the command line.

And a board that can not be overlooked:

"The key to success with Linux is not being good with computers but rather be good and like to experiment using Google."

Creation of visual applications for mobile Java easily: SVG

Archived on: Development, Informatica, Recipes and tricks - Packo at 7:32 pm on Friday, August 24, 2007

The other day I read that is not where Netbeans provided a way to develop graphical applications for J2ME, bone and mobile handheld devices, quite fast, scalable and highly spectacular results.

All this makes it through the new medium of SVG Tiny, and the tool-type "FlowDesign," Bone by design flows, which provides Netbeans.

What do we do to create an application? Very simple, NuevoProyecto-> Category: Mobile -> Proyects: Mobile Application -> Name of the project and little things well -> Emulator Platform: Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.1 for CCD, EA -> Device Configuration: CCD 1.1 -> Device Profile : MIDP 2.0 -> Finish.

Once this is done the initial outline with a form of initiation. Erase it from the palette and drag (on the right) is the component that we want to SVG, an image to begin with, once you get on the board, we copy an image SVG (Tiny) src to the project, will appear as resource, the drag the component that we have before. To end the flow, we add a component to "StopCommand" from the palette, as always: dragging. Now we see a signal flow connection with the label "Exit", then join with it that says "ExitPoint" in the MobileDevice and voilá! we already have a graphical application for mobile don 't you think so? Then you will press F6 and the emulator with the widget.

The most complicated of this is the topic of SVG, they have to be special and I do not have on hand any program that could make them, and postearé the second part of the Institute with applications that handle these kinds of images.

Podcasts:

Requirements:
- Netbeans 5.5 with SDK> = 1.5
- Netbeans Mobility Pack 5.5
- Sun_java_wireless_toolkit-2_5_1-ea

I tested this with a Nokia N80 and it works (which I do not remember if it is tried with the sdk from Nokia, but I think I tried with both).

Gentoo: Uninstall a whole catedoría

Archived on: GNU / Linux, Informatica, Recipes and tricks - Packo at 10:24 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007

Yesterday I met with the problem of wanting to remove an entire category in Gentoo, for example, wanted to remove x11-libs. I was watching and did not find anything, so I did a script in Python.

How to use it is:

"Usage: python unmerge_category <category> <category> ..."
"Example: python unmerge_category x11-x11-libs misc kde-base"

Link to the script: unmerge_category.py

We have long needed this functionality and the Media Program, but I was not standard and only benefit from the users of Mozilla.

The results are good, if you want to use it or just try it, you can do in the project page, I personally am going to replace the fudge I made for this product.
